Natur Cymru depends on the generosity of its supporters for content, all of which is provided on a voluntary basis.
If you would like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you
There are many different ways that you can participate:
Artwork and photographs
We are always delighted to hear from artists who might be prepared to donate use of their artwork based on Welsh landscapes or wildlife. This could be for the front cover or within the magazine itself.
We also feature many photographs of wildlife and landscapes. Often authors are able to provide relevant images, but not always, and so we often have to seek out donated photographs of particular subjects. If this is something you would consider volunteering to help with, we would love to hear from you.
Writing content for Natur Cymru
Main articles normally fit into one of three categories:
- Feature articles – around 2000-2500 words.
- Long articles – around 1200-1600 words
- One-page articles – around 400 words
You can read our guidance for authors. We do seek out content ourselves, but we always welcome suggestions of authors and content at any time, so please do get in touch if you have any ideas.
Recurring features
There are particular features that we are looking to fill for each edition:
Emerging Voices.
This is a regular feature; space reserved for early-career conservationists. Articles are typically in the long article category and we are happy to discuss any topic with potential authors.
Research in Wales.
This is also a regular feature, again in the long article category. This feature provides space for any student or academic working on research projects in Wales. The format is slightly more formal and includes a different referencing style.
Perspectives.
A recurring feature of multiple short contributions on topical issues. This two-page article varies in subject by edition (the forthcoming topic will be identified at the end of the prior edition’s article). Contributions of 200-300 words (like a letters page) are always welcomed, and a selection will be published.
Author profiles
We will always endeavour to provide a diversity of articles within each edition that cover a representative spread of geographical locations, language, and author profile. We are always particularly keen to hear from volunteers from under-represented author profiles, which includes Welsh language contributions, female and ethnic minority group authors.
We want Natur Cymru to celebrate multiple approaches and a variety of points of view. Put simply, we want it to appeal to everyone, and everyone is welcome.
A variety of support is available for those who may still be developing confidence in writing. This includes editorial support in both English and Welsh language. Support in sourcing images and maps can also be provided.
Social media content
Please do get in touch with us if you have any material you’d like us to consider for use in our social media channels! This includes images as well as factual content.
